Camels in the meadow

Last Updated: December 5, 2024|

In the summer, the camels are out in the meadow.

The camels graze from April to approximately October. They then enjoy the fresh grass and the sun.

In winter it is not so much too cold for the camels, but too wet. Camels have calluses under their feet. If they are left on wet soil for too long, the calluses become soft and they are susceptible to wounds and infections. Camels don’t like rain either.

The dairy animals go outside around 10:00 am. Their calves are always in a meadow near them. This way the mothers can keep a close eye on their calves. They go back inside around 3:30 PM so that they can lie inside for a while before we start milking at 5:30 PM so that you can enjoy delicious camel milk.

As soon as the dairy animals are inside, the camels from the other stable go outside: the young animals and the pregnant animals. When the weather is nice, they are outside until late in the evening.
